Sustainable event design supports Ecolab’s 100th Anniversary Kickoff

Fun doesn’t have to happen in the sun. Snowy Saint Paul, Minnesota—home to Ecolab headquarters—proved that with a birthday bash designed to embrace a winter wonderland. The company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection spans its century in business. They wanted a corporate celebration that would pay tribute to those efforts and engage employee families.

Over 100 years, Ecolab has become a trusted partner, offering millions of customers science-based solutions that improve hygiene. To jumpstart a year-long campaign to recognize the company’s centennial, they launched a festive kickoff. Flurries added to the air of excitement at Rice Park.

A massive ice sculpture transformed the space. Six 8-foot totems representing Ecolab divisions highlighted Ecolab’s brand identity. Attendees donned branded winter gear and strolled through four immersive timeline walls featuring company milestones.

Whimsical giant games and playful activities—even cockroach racing—provided kid-friendly fun. Hot drinks and s’mores by the fire, and live music by a beloved local band, helped attendees thaw amidst freezing temps. Meaningful speakers, including CEO Christophe Beck, Senator Amy Klobuchar and Congresswoman Betty McCollum, paid tribute to Ecolab’s 100 years of innovation and excellence.

Event strategy fuels long-term goals with fun

The kickoff event created momentum for Ecolab’s message and supported an inclusive company culture. More than 1,200 Ecolab team members and their families celebrated past accomplishments and future innovations. Guests experienced Ecolab’s dedication to sustainability firsthand. Water refilling stations, compostable food containers and reusable event materials proved priorities.

Throughout the event, a roving video team captured moments and authentic employee stories. One woman held her toddler while sharing, “My mom’s been here for 20 years, and my grandma actually retired from Ecolab.”

Participants rated the Centennial Kickoff as the “Best Event” among employee appreciation events. It showcased Ecolab’s commitment to sustainability and provided attendees with an unforgettable experience. The kickoff exceeded goals to inspire the Ecolab team, setting an innovative and positive precedent for the next 100 years.
